In Non - Monotonic Extensions of Logic Programming

چکیده
We present a framework of logic programming using an explicit representation of defeats of assumptions, called assumption denials. We study semantics for extended, disjunctive, and extended disjunctive programs, all in the same framework. The framework is based on a x-point operator over \uninterpreted programs", and semantics for various kinds of programs are then deened simply by adding appropriate constraint clauses. For extended programs, we present a skeptical semantics that is tractable, and a credulous semantics which is a natural extension of a number of equivalent semantics proposed for normal programs. The generality of this framework is further evidenced by its ability to deene semantics for disjunctive programs in terms of non-disjunctive programs. This reveals a relationship between disjunctive programs and non-disjunctive programs, which is known previously to be false in some other formalisms.

Argumentation and Answer Set Programming
Argumentation and answer set programming are the two main knowledge representation paradigms emerged from logic programming for non-monotonic reasoning. This paper surveys recent work on using answer set programming as a mechanism for computing extensions in argumentation. The paper also indicates some directions for future work.
متن کاملAn Assumption-Based Framework for Non-Monotonic Reasoning
The notion of assumption-based framework generalises and reenes the use of abduction to give a formalisation of non-monotonic reasoning. In this framework, a sentence is a non-monotonic consequence of a theory if it can be derived monotonically from a theory extended by means of acceptable assumptions. The notion of acceptability for such assumptions is formulated in terms of their ability succ...
متن کاملIntegrating Temporal Extensions of Answer Set Programming
In this paper we study the relation between the two main extensions of Answer Set Programming with temporal modal operators: Temporal Equilibrium Logic (TEL) and Temporal Answer Sets (TAS). On the one hand, TEL is a complete non-monotonic logic that results from the combination of Linear-time Temporal Logic (LTL) with Equilibrium Logic. On the other hand, TAS is based on a richer modal approach...
متن کاملGenerated Models and Extensions of Nonmonotonic Systems
Stable generated models provide a general semantics for logic programming. Although equal for normal programs, they diier from the answer set semantics on disjunctive programs. We show that stable generated semantics coincide with the semantics obtained by translating programs into a minimal partial temporal logic into which a subsystem of default logic can be embedded. This leads us to a new v...
متن کاملA Unifying View for Logic Programming with Non-Monotonic Reasoning
We provide a simple formulation of a framework where some extensions of logic programming with non-monotonic reasoning are treated uniformly, namely two kinds of negation and abduction. The resulting semantics is purely model-theoretic, and gives meaning to any non-contradictory abductive logic program. Moreover, it embeds and generalizes some existing semantics which deal with negation and abd...
متن کاملThree-Valued Non-Monotonic Formalisms and Semantics of Logic Programs
We introduce 3-valued extensions of major non-monotonic formalisms and we prove that the recently proposed well-founded semantics of logic programs is equivalent, for arbitrary logic programs, to 3-valued forms of McCarthy's circumscription, Reiter's closed world assumption, Moore's autoepistemic logic and Reiter's default theory. This result not only provides a further justiication of the well...
